This weekend I visited my family at the farm in Denmark. 7 little lambs were running around in the barn just like a commercial for soft toilette paper. But in one of the booths things weren't as happy. Daisy had given birth to a healthy little baby less than 24 hours ago but she herself was pretty beaten by the process.
I could not help but trying to connect with her and heal her in my own humble kind of way. She looked up at me with her big warm eyes, so weak, so beautiful. She was hyperventilating and could barely stand up so I wondered why she didn't just lie down to get some rest but then the little lamb ran over and started to drink from her, his little tale spinning as a confirmation that he was successful, and I realized Daisy was using her last efforts to stand up so that her little baby could get the milk and nutrition it needed to survive.
Right there, in the cosiness of the barn, I realized that Motherhood truly is the most powerful and overwhelming force that nature has created - nothing makes more zense than a mother protecting her baby...even if it means putting her own feelings and pain aside...
Let's hope Daisy makes it...the vet dropped by later that evening and gave her another round of medicine so now all we can do is hope for mother earth to pitch in. I'll keep you updated.
